Illinois School District Successfully Switches from PowerSchool to SchoolInsight

Elmhurst, IL (May 30, 2013) – Common Goal Systems announces that R.O.W.V.A. CUSD 208 in Oneida, IL has successfully completed its first year using SchoolInsight, the web-based student information system (SIS). The district formerly used PowerSchool, but was frustrated with it’s complexity and lack of support. The school district serves about 675 students in five communities.

“There’s an emerging trend of small to medium-sized school districts switching away from PowerSchool to easier solutions like SchoolInsight,” says Mike Xakellis, CEO for Common Goal Systems. “Our market research data shows that smaller districts have notably low levels of customer satisfaction with PowerSchool. While PowerSchool’s flexibility and customizability are beneficial for large districts, it’s burdensome for everyone else. Smaller districts with fewer technology personnel are often overwhelmed by the system. With recent advances in data migration technology, switching systems is not as hard as you may think.”

Lloyd Little, Superintendent of R.O.W.V.A. CUSD 208, says, “Before switching to SchoolInsight we used PowerSchool, which was very complex. You need a background in software or have to attend PowerSchool University to grasp it. Only two people from the district can call support, unless you purchase more licenses. SchoolInsight is user-friendly and the tech support is great. I can easily pull all the reports and data I need. When I have special requests, the techs are accommodating and respond quickly. With SchoolInsight any user can call, saving me time. We’re extremely happy that we switched.”

SchoolInsight is designed for small to medium-sized school districts (under 6000 students), which are the majority in Illinois and many other states. It provides functionality for student demographics, scheduling, attendance, grade reporting (report cards/transcripts), tuition/fees, lunch, and discipline. It is fully integrated with TeacherEase that provides gradebook, curriculum/lesson planning, and learning management system functionality.

Common Goal Systems (www.common-goal.com) provides web-based services for education. Using Software as a Service (SaaS), the company offers products via the Internet and is responsible for all system operation and maintenance.
