Unexpected Payrix Charges for Fraudsight

If you process online payments through SchoolInsight, then you should have a Payrix account.  It accumulates funds from parents/guardians’ online payments and regularly disburses them into your district/school bank account.  In your latest disbursement, you may have noticed a new and unexpected charge for “Fraudsight” for $29.99.  This is an error, and you should receive a refund soon.

To give a little context, fraud is a large problem in the online payment space.  Payrix has been working on “Fraudsight” to help their online merchants.  They rolled it out broadly very recently.

SchoolInsight customers, on the other hand, have very low fraud rates.  Districts and Schools know their “customers” (parents/guardians), and see them physically regularly.  It’s hard for our customers to commit online payment fraud against districts/schools.  So “FraudSight” is less valuable to our community.

With the Fraudsight rollout, an error occurred and all of our merchants were mistakenly auto-enrolled into Fraudsight.  A monthly fee of $29.99 was added to every account.  We detected the new fee and have been discussing it with Payrix.  They agree that auto-enrollment was a mistake, and they un-enrolled all of our merchants.  They are working to refund the $29.99 fee.  This process is partially manual, so it may take a little time.  We do not have an exact timeline on when it will be completed.

When looking at our Disbursement reports, both the original fee and refund will be categorized with the “Payrix Fees” account code. Once applied the fee and refund should net out to $0, most likely across multiple disbursements.

Sorry for the inconvenience.  We discovered the issue shortly before the holiday weekend, and it took some time to communicate and formulate a plan with Payrix.  We think un-enrollment and a full refund should be a good resolution to the situation.
