Updates to General Journal and Account-Single View

Common Goal Systems continuously invests in its products.  Over the last few years we’ve created a new generation of technology that delivers greatly increased usability.  With the goal of product improvement, we have been systematically rewriting existing pages with the new technology.  Over time we hope to upgrade most of our functionality.

Our latest effort has been to build a new General Journalbeta page in SchoolInsight Financials. Like other “new generation” pages, it delivers better usability, faster data access, and more efficient workflows when entering data.

On General Journalbeta, every posted entry can be expanded to view additional details.  In the screenshot below, a general journal entry is expanded to show the invoice, which is subsequently expanded to show the line item details.  This information is all available without clicking away to a new page.  This example is an invoice, but other types of entries can be expanded too.

Another improvement is the Create Journal Entry page, now accessible via the Create button at the bottom of the page. The fields within the Create Journal Entry page are now more keyboard-friendly, reducing the need for mouse navigation.  

When hovering over the Vendor field, you can create a new vendor, edit vendor details or view past invoices using the “hover” buttons on the right. 

As is our custom, we haven’t removed the old page (we don’t like to take properly working functionality away from customers).  The original General Journal page has been renamed “General Journal (classic)” and will remain accessible for some time.

In addition, we have added similar functionality in a “Transactions” tab on Account - Single View. It shows every transaction affecting the account, regardless of workflow.
